Week 8, Thing 18 On-Line Aps

Oh! Now this I can relate to. My computer, for another job, crashed a couple of years ago. Much to my dismay, I realized that this donated computer did not have backup disks for Microsoft Word, and Excel. What to do? I knew we didn't have the money to purchase new software but I had to access the files NOW! The hero of the day?.....Google aps. I downloaded this freeware and was on my way. It did the job. No fancy fonts to choose from, and very basic tools, but I was able to continue working. I have since purchased Microsoft software for Word, Excel but in a pinch, freeware really helps.

Week 5, Thing 12 Rollyo

I've jumped around so much that now I'm having to go back and fill in the "things" I didn't do. Hence Thing 12...Rollyo.
I created a Rollyo search engine for travel and food sites...two of my favorite pass times! I don't know if I'll really use it. It's one of those things that I might use if I remember to. I can see it's usefullness for someone that is constantly using the same sites to search for information, say stock quotes, but for me...we'll see. Here's mine http://rollyo.com/hmays/travel_food_search/

Week 6, Thing 13 Del.icio.us

Is it just me, or am I creating web page after web page of my interests? I get the principle and see it's use, but in conjunction with all the other stuff I've created, I just feel I'm wasting time. I don't mind the creation, I just want it ALL on one page or at least in a relational format when I'm through. That way I'm not going from site to site adding links to my other creations. Does this make sense? Well, at any rate, I set up my Delicious acct and have added a couple of links to it. http://del.icio.us/hmays1

End of the Information Highway???!!!, Week 3 Thing 7

While talking to my husband about RSS feeds, he mentioned that a co-worker of his had experienced the "end of the internet", while reading his feeds using Google Reader. Evidently, if you hit the "next" button A LOT, you will reach "THE END OF THE INTERNET."

I'm sure, if you're at all like me, you now want to see the end of the internet. Well, if you Google "You have reached the end of the internet" you'll get 632 hits. Check out this one http://www.allfaith.com/Humor/end.html

If you want to see what it looks like while using Google Reader then click this
http://www.google.com/reader/next?go=noitems

Doesn't this make you wonder if you can reach the end of the internet?

Library Thing - Week 5, Thing 11

I've actually been using Library Thing for awhile, though I haven't recently worked on updating it.
I predominantly use it for readers advisory when I can picture the book, but can't put my mind around the author or title. Sometimes all I know is that it was a mystery or about vampires, so when I use Library Thing, I try to add tags that will allow me to search. Especially for mysteries, I'll just put a couple of titles in, like for the Cat Who series. Just something to jog my memory. I've read them all, I don't need to list them all! Here's a link to my Library Thing page: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/hmays

Avatar Madness Week 5, Thing 10

My God! What an amazingly fun waste of time!! My 11 year old thought it was the coolest thing. I keep wanting to go back and change it. I can't imagine how addicting this would be for a teen.

Breck's exploration into RSS, Week 4 Thing 8

Today I set up my Google reader account. I'm not too sure that I'll actually use this new plaything since a large portion of my day is already devoted to reading the newspaper, email and watching the evening news. As a librarian, if I need the information, I'll go out and find it. By the end of most days, the last thing I want is something feeding me more information. However, I'll give it a chance and see whether I become addicted to it.

Playing with Warholizer, Week 3 Thing 6

I decided to see what Warholizer would do to an image. I used a copy of Sneaks that I got off the BCPL website. Here are the results. (http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/warholizer.php)

Okay, it's cute. Let's see what it does with an actual picture, rather than a drawing.

Here I used a picture of Bonnie Raitt that I took at the New Orleans 2005 Jazzfest.

I guess I'm just not into the whole Andy Warhol thing, but if you are, then this is easy and quick.

Breck's New York Travels Using Flicr, Week 3 Thing 5

Lady Breck's Castle...
actually this is the Belvedere Castle
in Central Park, NY.

This is a Blue Man (duh!), from the Blue Man group.Fabulous show. This particular Blue Man is the one that has the ability to catch large amounts of marshmellows in his mouth. The child is mine.

Lights ablaze in Time Square.
Picture taken from atop the Empire State Building.

View of the Chrysler Building
from Room 3203 Affinia Dumont Hotel.

This is why they call them skyscrapers! The Chrysler Building's silver clad spire disappears in a bank of summer storm clouds.

Just Getting Started Week 2 Thing 4

I've been away, so I'm just getting started with this blog.
Hopefully things will go more smoothly once I get the hang of all the links.
I'm experiencing severe writer's block, so I'll end this inane post.
